Someday is today

Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and never succeed.
—Proverbs 12:24

The most popular day of the week: tomorrow!

The day of the week that never shows up: someday!

Funny thing is that no matter how often you say their name, you cannot find either day on the calendar! Tomorrow cannot be scheduled, and someday is only wishful thinking.

Snow White captured the dreaminess of someday when she sang “someday my prince will come.” You and I also make someday a land of dreams…in our minds, with our promises and hopes as the thought of someday seems to be the panacea for the frustration, weariness, and discouragement so often encountered each day.

Someday becomes the offering of the “addicted busy” and the hope of the “oppressed longing”. Someday it will be better, different, happier, fairer, peaceful, more just. Too often the too busy Mom, Dad, husband, wife, promise that someday it will be better…more time with each other, fewer angry words, be able to attend school functions and cheer…but sadly someday never comes.

Ronald Reagan offered these words of insight to the “someday syndrome:” “To sit back hoping that someday, some way, someone will make things right is to go on feeding the crocodile, hoping he will eat you last — but eat you he will.”

News flash….Someday is not a day of the week! It means little unless what you seek for “someday” becomes acted upon and started today!

“Today I will do what others won't, so tomorrow I can accomplish what others can't.” Jerry Rice, Football Hall of Famer, realized that while the rest of the players were thinking someday…he made it happen today. He holds every significant record for receivers!

What do you need to do TODAY? Take all your somedays and start making them happen TODAY...why wait?

In a few moments you will be helping a fellow employee, physician partner, patient or patient family who are thinking someday, when they need to be acting today. Show them how it can be better, different, happier, fairer, peaceful, more hopeful, and healthier right now. Healing starts today…
