…on the Sabbath day Jesus went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. —Luke 4:16
Do you have a favorite narrator? The voice captures your attention and holds you with inflection, with pace and intonation from the first moment you hear it.
Perhaps the voice for you is: James Earl Jones (Darth Vader), Charlton Heston (Moses), Morgan Freeman (March of the Penguins), Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins), Sean Connery, Sam Elliot (Beef. It’s what’s for dinner.), Whoopi Goldberg (Lion King), Gilbert Gottfried (AFLAC duck), Patrick Dempsey (All State Commercials), Lauren Bacall (Fancy Feast cat food).
You hear the voice and you immediately associate it with the product, movie or moment in time.
There is another voice that rarely gets the public level of recognition these others receive, yet it is the voice you’ve heard for most of your life…Mom’s voice. She was your first narrator in life, reading to you, talking all the time; teaching you about bugs and people, teaching, sharing and playing fair, loving and being lovable.
Your Mom may no longer be with you; however her voice is still audible as you listen to the counsel of your heart and mind. If you are fortunate enough to have Mom’s voice a phone call away, be sure to take every opportunity to listen, to share and to remember the things that bind your hearts so closely together.
Today your voice will be someone’s narrator; describing the things of health care, offering words of support, and counsel to help them find a way through. Remember to remind them by your actions and words, just as your Mum did, that no matter what happens, they are loved without condition!
