“My own eyes are not enough for me; I will see through those of others.” ― C.S. Lewis
Dealing with a pollen inspired asthma problem, I had been wheezing like a steam engine and coughing like a backfiring car. My friend Norma asked “How are you feeling?”
“OK,” was my tired answer.
“Show me your eyes” she said, and upon looking offered this advice, “You are having a tough afternoon, why don’t you go home early?”
I did. She saw what I was feeling, but wouldn’t voice.
The eyes told the tale … they never lie do they??Described by some as the window of the soul, your eyes are amazing gifts:
- Blinking more than 10,000,000 times a year.
- 120 million rods make night vision possible. They say you can see a candle 14 miles away at night.
- 8 million color sensitive cones make daytime pop.
- Your eye can detect 10 million color hues.
- You use about half of your brain in the “seeing” process.
- 93% of what you perceive is non-verbal, 7% is based on words.
- 80% of your memories are made by images.
Do you see hope, worry, trust, fear, joy, weariness, comprehension, excitement, peace, courage, anxiety? Science has yet to develop a device to measure the depth or breadth of the human spirit. That’s what God expects of you and your eyes!
Your eyes that see in them, what they cannot see in themselves. Peter Gabriel wrote a song with those lyrics:
"in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light"
